What is the difference between human GCS and veterinary MGCS?

The veterinary Modified Glasgow Coma Scale adapts human GCS categories to small animals. It evaluates motor activity, brainstem reflexes, and level of consciousness. Verbal response is omitted because animals cannot speak.

How often should MGCS be reassessed?

In acute neurologic cases, reassess MGCS every 30–60 minutes initially. As the patient stabilizes, extend to every 2–4 hours. Any decline warrants immediate re-evaluation.

Can MGCS predict outcome?

Yes. Lower initial scores and failure to improve within 24 hours are associated with poorer prognosis. However, MGCS is one of many factors; etiology, response to treatment, and imaging findings also matter.
