Cushing's screening score
Checklist-based screening for hyperadrenocorticism in dogs and cats.
Safety checks
- This tool supports screening and education only.
- It does not diagnose hyperadrenocorticism or replace endocrine testing.
- Many Cushing's signs overlap with other endocrine and metabolic diseases.
- Always rule out iatrogenic Cushing's (steroid history) first.
- Verify patient-specific decisions with current endocrinology references.
Basis and limits
- Scoring basis: structured checklist of commonly cited clinical signs of hyperadrenocorticism.
- Low likelihood (0–2): few compatible signs. Pursue other differentials first.
- Moderate likelihood (3–5): several compatible signs. Baseline screening (UCCR) reasonable.
- High likelihood (6+): many compatible signs. Full diagnostic workup (ACTH stim, LDDST, ultrasound) recommended.
- Scope: screening aid. Final diagnosis requires hormonal testing and imaging.
