Blood pressure & MAP calculator

Estimate mean arterial pressure (MAP) from paired systolic and diastolic readings and display the ACVIM systolic target-organ-damage risk category for dogs and cats. Educational calculation only.

Enter a paired systolic/diastolic reading recorded with a validated clinical method. This tool cannot derive diastolic pressure from a Doppler systolic reading.

Educational calculation only. A single reading does not diagnose hypertension or select treatment.
Safety checks
  • This tool supports calculation and education only.
  • It does not diagnose hypertension, prescribe, or replace clinical judgment.
  • MAP is an estimate from paired systolic and diastolic readings, not a direct measurement.
  • Blood pressure varies with technique, patient state, and setting; confirm interpretation with reliable repeated measurements and current references.
  • It does not determine perfusion, target-organ damage, or a treatment plan.
Basis and limits
  • MAP estimate: diastolic + (systolic − diastolic) / 3.
  • ACVIM systolic categories for dogs and cats: <140 mmHg minimal target-organ-damage risk; 140–159 mmHg low risk; 160–179 mmHg moderate risk; ≥180 mmHg high risk.
  • Scope: the category is based on the entered systolic value only. It is not a diagnosis, does not establish perfusion or target-organ damage, and does not select treatment.
