Clinical utility

Dilution calculator

Solve C₁V₁ = C₂V₂ for any missing variable. Unit-agnostic.

Educational support only. Verify with clinical judgment and current references.
Formula reference

C₁V₁ = C₂V₂

Enter any 3 values to solve for the 4th. Concentrations and volumes must use consistent units.

V₂ − V₁ = diluent volume to add.

Works with mg/mL, % solutions, mEq/mL, or any consistent concentration unit.

Safety checks
  • This tool supports calculation and education only.
  • It does not diagnose, prescribe, or replace current clinical references.
  • Verify all calculations before preparation and administration.
  • Use consistent units throughout each calculation.
  • Label all prepared solutions clearly with concentration, date, and preparer.
Basis and limits
  • Formula: C₁V₁ = C₂V₂ (conservation of mass in dilution).
  • Units: any consistent concentration and volume units. Do not mix mg/mL with % without conversion.
  • Diluent volume: V₂ − V₁ gives the volume of diluent to add to the stock solution.
  • Scope: simple dilution math. Does not account for volume contraction, chemical incompatibility, or osmolarity changes.
