Clinical utility
Dilution calculator
Solve C₁V₁ = C₂V₂ for any missing variable. Unit-agnostic.
Formula reference
C₁V₁ = C₂V₂
Enter any 3 values to solve for the 4th. Concentrations and volumes must use consistent units.
V₂ − V₁ = diluent volume to add.
Works with mg/mL, % solutions, mEq/mL, or any consistent concentration unit.
Safety checks
- This tool supports calculation and education only.
- It does not diagnose, prescribe, or replace current clinical references.
- Verify all calculations before preparation and administration.
- Use consistent units throughout each calculation.
- Label all prepared solutions clearly with concentration, date, and preparer.
Basis and limits
- Formula: C₁V₁ = C₂V₂ (conservation of mass in dilution).
- Units: any consistent concentration and volume units. Do not mix mg/mL with % without conversion.
- Diluent volume: V₂ − V₁ gives the volume of diluent to add to the stock solution.
- Scope: simple dilution math. Does not account for volume contraction, chemical incompatibility, or osmolarity changes.
