Reaction First Response
Stop transfusion, maintain IV line with saline, and reassess temperature/HR/RR/BP immediately. Watch for fever, vomiting, urticaria, dyspnea, hypotension, facial swelling, or pigmenturia.
💡 Transfusion Pearls
  • Start slowly: 1-5 mL/kg over 15-30 minutes to monitor for reactions
  • Complete within 4 hours to prevent bacterial growth
  • Use blood administration set with 170-260 micron filter
  • Warming recommended for large volume or rapid transfusions
